James R. Wise, 71, of Bedford, Ky., died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born July 19, 1936, in Trimble County, Ky., the son of Oscar Harry and Thelma Jewell Gosman Wise. He was a truck driver, farmer and worked at the reformatory in La Grange, Ky. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers and tinkering with old trucks. He had served in the Navy.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Yvonne Boatwright Wise; four children, Teresa Ann Ross, of Milton, Ky., and Timmy Ray Wise, Terry Wayne Wise and Bobby Carroll Wise, all of Bedford, Ky.; three siblings, Dorothy Lucas of Edinburgh, Leslie Wise of Hubbard, Ohio, and Paula Ginn of Bedford, Ky.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service was Sunday, Feb. 17 at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford, Ky. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bedford.
