Edward Chambers was christened 17 September 1809 at Boughton-Malherbe, Kent, 3rd son of Edward and Sarah Sedgewick Chambers. Edward's siblings are John (1805), James (1807), Sarah Day (1810), Sarah (1812), Marianne (1815), William (1817), George (1820), Stephen (1822), Harriet (1824), Reuben (1827), Caroline (1833) and Emily (1837).

Edward married Mary Ann Burbridge 14 June 1834 at Hollingbourne, Lenham, Kent. At the time of his marriage he is listed as a farm labourer.

Edward and Mary Ann had eleven children, all born in Lenham.

In 1841, the family is living at New Shelve Cottage. Son George is not listed in this census and no further data was found on him.
In 1851, the family address is 65 Shelve Cottage. Edward, 42, and his son, Isaac are listed as agricultural labourers.
In 1861, Edward, 50, is a shepherd; son Edward, then 23, is an agricultural labourer; Charles, 17, is a farm bailiff.

Edward's wife, Mary Ann, died 29 July 1873 of chronic rheumatism with which she suffered for 16 years, as stated on the death certificate.

Edward married Lucy Eldridge Bolton (sometimes spelled Balton) 8 July 1875 at Charing Heath Holy Trinity Church. Lucy was christened about 1826 in Moldash. She married first Henry Bolton December 1854 at West Ashford, Kent.

In 1881, Edward is listed as a farm bailiff with wife Lucy Chambers. They are living at New Shelve, Lenham. Household members include Isaac, 40, groom; Henry J. Balton 9 (born Lenham,son of Lucy and her first husband);
John Balton 54, born Charing (probably a brother-in-law of Lucy's);
James Harris 30, visitor, born Throwley, driver in Royal Artillery; Edward Filmer 54, born Lenham, labourer; Lucy M. Smith 14, visitor, born Selling.
In this census, Edward is listed as age 68 - should be 72; son Isaac is listed as 40 - should be 46.

Lucy Chambers died 24 Dec 1890, Hollingbourne District, and is buried next to Edward's first wife, Mary Ann . Her death was proved by Thomas Bolton of Lenham, farm bailiff and sole executor.

In 1891, Edward is a widower, age 81, living at New Shelve Cottage, a farm bailiff. Isaac, 52, labourer; Henry Bolton (step-son), 19, labourer; Maria Smith 55, widow, housekeeper, born Suffolk.

Edward died 18 January 1900 Hollingbourne, Lenham of cardiac disease.
There is no marker in the church yard but we presume he is buried near his wives.
