James William Calhoun was born April 27, 1897 in Marshall County, Indiana. He was the son of Henry Franklin "Frank" Calhoun and Edith Erdine Butcher. He married Goldia Edith Garland on July 6, 1918 in Saint Joseph, Berrien County, Michigan. James and Goldia were the parents of seven children: Clara E., Susie V., James William Jr., Jack A., Ruth Ann, Carol L. and Linda L. James died on November 6, 1986 in Knox, Starke County, Indiana and was buried on November 9, 1986.

James W. Calhoun

James William CALHOUN, 89, Monterey, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday at County Side Place Nursing Home, Knox, where he had been in failing health for three months.

He was born April 27, 1897 in Marshall County near Culver to Franklin and Edith BUTCHER CALHOUN. On July 6, 1918 in St. Joseph, Mich., he married Goldia GARLAND, who died Nov. 23, 1985. He was a longtime associate milk hauler for the Wanzer Dairy, Monterey, was a farmer, and owned and operated the Calhoun Orchard, Monterey.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Orville (Clara) LARGE, Mrs. Lowell (Susie) REINHOLD and Miss Carol KELSEY, all of Monterey; Mrs. John (Ruth A.) BOWERSOX, Leiters Ford, and Mrs. Dean (Linda) BAKER, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, James W. and Jack A. [CALHOUN], both of New Carlisle; two sisters, Mrs. Wilma BANASIAK, Knox, and Mrs. Frances MASTER, Monterey. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennie JORDAN and Hazel SCHALL; two brothers, Lee and Loy [CALHOUN], and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Robert HANSEN officiating. Burial will be in the Monterey I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m. until services on Sunday.
