Donna F. Stevens passed away suddenly on Feb. 4, 2008, at Swedish Hospital, Seattle at the age of 87.

She was born to LeRoy John and Cornelia (DeBoer) Miller on March 1, 1920 in Seattle.
Donna graduated from Edmonds High School and Western Washington University in Bellingham.

During World War II, she served with the U.S. Navy as a WAVE and one of the first female radiomen. She was stationed at Treasure Island in California.

Donna was married to Ray C. Stevens on August 23, 1945, in Sacramento, Calif. They moved to Blaine, Wash., in 1946 and then to Seattle in 1950. They enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking. In 1965, Donna began working for the Social Security Administration at the district office in downtown Seattle. She continued to work for SSA until retirement in 1982.

Following retirement, Donna and Ray moved to Whidbey Island, living in Penn Cove. They spent many hours on their fishing boat in search of salmon. They enjoyed gardening. Donna grew beautiful flowers and Ray grew delicious vegetables. They loved their grandsons' visits to the Island.

In 1991, Donna and Ray returned to Seattle, where Donna continued sewing and quilting, stitching many beautiful quilts for family and herself.

Donna is survived by daughter Diane Caragio and husband Ron of Galt, Calif.: grandsons Vincent Caragio (Tonya Lopez) of Livermore, Calif., and Joseph Caragio (Teresa) of Galt, Calif., and by great grandchildren, Christina, Guiseppe and Logan Caragio of Galt, and Evette Caragio of Livermore.

Husband Ray and one son Dennis, one sister Chelsea Tapley and one brother Donald Miller preceded her in death.

Funeral services for Donna Stevens will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, with Rev. Jon Brown officiating.
