Benjamin fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was a private in Capt. Hodges Company ,Florida; Reserves; Benjamin appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War, belonging to the Confederate Army, surrendered by Maj. Gen. Sam Jones, commanding Confederate Forces in Florida, to Brig Gen. I. Vogdes, U.S.V., Commanding U.S. Forces in Florida, in compliance with the terms of a Military Convention made on April 26,1865 at Bennett's House, near Durham's Station, N.C. between General J.E. Johnson, of the Confederate Armies, and Major W.T. Sherman, U.S.A., and approved by Lieut. Gen. U.S. Grant, U.S.A..

He enlisted as a Private on May 21, 1864 age of 19 in Company 1, 1st. Reserves in Regiment Florida. Oath of Allegiance on May 18, 1865 at Lake City, Fla.

The Family photo had the following written below it;

"The beautiful sisters with their lovely, promising young families as they appeared in the life of the community which was to become the town of Trenton, Florida, some twenty years later. On the left is Nancy Abbott Williams with Bessie Susan Williams (Shouse) in lap and husband Benjamin Stokes Williams behind. On their right with book in hand, is James Edward Williams and Charles Abraham Williams. On their left and in the same order, is Benjamin Franklin Williams, Lemuel Gadsen Williams, Emma Williams (Ackerman) and William J. Williams, kneeling. To the right is Emma Permelia Abbott Gay with Lila Estelle Gay(Townsend) in lap and husband Thomas Absalom "Affie" Gay Behind."
