Aged 47y 2m 4d; died in Elkart, IL

Died, at his home near Elkart, Logan county, Ill, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1895, Charles S. Lawrence, aged 47 years. The news of Mr. Lawrence's death was conveyed here in a telegram from Elkhart, announcing that Mr. Lawrence was found dead in bed at the residence on his farm. The death of Mr. Lawrence was entirely unexpected, and will be a great shock to his many friends in this vicinity.

Mr. Lawrence left his home in this city early Monday morning for the purpose of visiting his farm, and was apparently in good health. Physicians were sent for and an examination was made, when they announced that death was due to heart failure. Mr. Lawrence had also been suffering from kidney trouble during the summer. The remains arrived in this city last night and were taken to his home at Seventh and Cook streets.

Hon. Charles S. Lawrence was born in Logan county in 1848 in the same house in which he died. He was the youngest of five children, of whom there are now only three living, two brothers and one sister, the latter Mrs. Turner, having lived with Mr. Lawrence in this city since the death of his wife, and being now the sole head of the family, consisting of six girls, Louise, Gwendolin, Stella, Winnie, Margaret and Frances, the youngest being now 2 1/2 years of age. Mrs. Lawrence died about eighteen months ago.

Mr. Lawrence was a member of the Thirty-fourth general assembly from the Twenty-ninth district, and was one of the prominent republican leaders of the house, being active in enacting many prominent bills that session. He declined a re-nomination in 1887 for the Thirty-fifth general assembly, and shortly afterward moved here.
