Willard H. Poland, 82, of 115 S. Boston Street, Galion, died Sunday, April 30, 2006 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital.

Born May 11, 1923 in Kenton, he was the son of the late Hiriam Poland and Mary Leonard Poland. He married Annabelle L. Chapman Poland on September 8, 1946 and she survives.

He graduated from Galion High School 1942 and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He also belonged to Galion Moose Lodge 303, Galion Elk's Lodge 1191, Galion Masonic Lodge 414 F & AM where he was a 50 year member, Galion Chapter 142 Royal Arch Masons, a 32nd Degree member of Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus and the Galion Shrine Club. He was formerly Scout Master of the Peace Lutheran Church Boy Scout Troop and Captain of the Galion Police Auxiliary. He and his wife spent winters in Palm Harbor, Fla. since 1986. While there he volunteered at Curlew Schools for 11 years helping teachers with Kindergarten students. He received a recognition award from U.S. President George H. W. Bush recognizing his volunteerism.

He owned and operated Poland True Value Hardware in Galion for 37 years. Prior to that he was assistant personnel manager at Galion Hercules, worked at Hopkins Music in Galion as a service technician and worked for Railway Express in Galion transporting railroaders.

Surviving are one son, Michael H. Poland of Hinesville, Ga.; three grandchildren, Ailee and her husband Omesh Sommaru of Cape Coral, Fla., Tyler Poland and his wife Tina of Mapleton, Ga. and Todd Poland of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty Ashwell, Barbara Harvey, Shirley Brown, Mary Rarick, Kaye and Ronald Scott and Karen Knapp all of Bucyrus and Sandy Britt of North Robinson and two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Virginia Poland of Bucyrus and Dale and Joyce Poland of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert and Martin Poland.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Ron Keller and Rev. Paul Young officiating. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.
