Julia Katherine "Fannie" GOULD BARNES of St. Louis b. April 7, 1848 in Ohio. d. May 16, 1922. She was formerly of St. Louis, the daughter of William GOULD, descendant of William Gould who served in the Essex County Militia in NJ. m. W.illiam FLetcher Barnes who was the son of Joseph BARNES and Mary WELLER, Originally of Livingston County NY. W.F. died after 1920 and was buried at the Forest View Abbey re-interred at some point between 1860-1985 in neighboring Greenwood Cemetery (West Side Cemetery).
He conducted business in Rockford, Winnebago County, ILL. The W. F. & John Barnes Company of Rockford, Illinois was established by the brothers William Fletcher and John Barnes in November 1869, organized as a formal partnership in 1872, and incorporated in 1884. The company operated in Rockford until 1964, when it was bought by Babcock-Wilcox. Fletcher held many patents on his wood working machines. The Barnes family became very prominent.
The Barnes Mansion was built by William Fletcher Barnes in 1893, now houses the Burpee Museum / Offices in Rockford his brother Franklin Barnes lived down the street.
