Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Bement United Methodist Church, 249 N. Piatt St., Bement. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at the Bement United Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Bement Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, or the Bement United Methodist Church.
Carolyn was born on July 13, 1912, in Springfield, a daughter of William Christian and Henriette Adams Starck. She married Daniel F. Siders on Dec. 23, 1933, in Springfield, and he passed away on Oct. 30, 1997. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband and twin sisters, Elizabeth Wilkinson and Louise Moore.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel Kent (wife Nancy) Siders of Springfield and Stephen Ray Siders of Champaign; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Ralph R. and Gertrude Siders, Jr. of Urbana, formerly of Bement, and three nieces.
Mrs. Siders attended schools in Springfield, graduating from Springfield High School. She attended Millikin University, Decatur, and then taught at the elementary level in Springfield for several years. Carolyn moved to Bement in 1936 and was a longtime active member of the Bement United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women's Club and the Bement Women's Club. Her volunteer activities included the John and Mary E. Kirby Hospital Auxiliary, Allerton House Auxiliary, and several community groups working for the youth programs and anti-drug activities. She was also a 65-year active member of the Monticello Golf Club.
Roux-Hinds Funeral Home, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement, has been entrusted with the family's loved one for Carolyn's services.
