ROBERT BRUCE "KIP" BATES, III, was born December 15, 1967, and passed away too soon, age 39, on September 27, 2007 in Carter Lake, Iowa.

He served as Lance Corporal with the United States Marine Corps in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf.

He was described as a kind, respectful, private man with a great smile, one who loved family, was a good friend, one who made the people around him feel valued. He was known for being the type of guy who would help out older people.

He is survived by a new-born daughter and by two other children - a son and a daughter - both of California.

Robert Bates was buried with military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
