Jess joined our heavenly Father's flock on Sunday, February 10, 2008.

Jess was born May 6, 1936, in Marshall, to Jessy Thomas Hayes and Velma Oney Hayes. He was a member of Glenwood Acres Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Deana; daughter, Debra McDowell, and son-in-law, Jerry of Diana; daughter, Cynthia Blankenship of Frankston; stepsons, Mickey Mehrens and wife, Bretta of Longview, Timothy Mehrens and wife, Libby of Spring, Mark Mehrens of Longview, and Steve Mehrens of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Dorothy Burnett-Lesley and husband, George of Longview, Marie Collins and husband, Cleon of Hallsville, and Ella Mae James and husband, Bruce of Gainesville; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, with the Reverend Othel LaFerney officiating. Interment will be in Rosewood Park Cemetery.
