Rufus R. Prikryl, Sr., 98 of Granger died on Thursday, March 26, 2015. He was born on August 12, 1916 in Crosby, Texas, to Rufus and Amalia (Jasek) Prikryl. On May 11,1943 he married his first wife, Emily Krivacka.

He was a member of Granger High School Class of 1936 and a star football player. He was a veteran of WWII, landing on Utah Beach in Normandy on 10 June 1944. He served in the Anti-Tank Platoon, HHC, 3rd Battalion, 357th Infantry Regiment, of the 90th Infantry Division and was wounded in action in Belgium on November 26, 1944. After recovery, he rejoined the 90th Division in Czechoslovakia and served as a Czech interpreter. He received The Purple Heart among other awards.

Rufus was a longtime Granger area farmer and a beekeeper. He was very active in the community serving as American Legion Commander, President of the Blackland Co-Operative Cotton Gin and Knights of Columbus - Grand Knight. He was also a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, the Granger KJT, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion Color Guard and a longtime KC Bingo worker.

In 1986 he lost his lst wife (Emily) after 43 years of marriage. He married Mary Holubec on November 27, 1990. Mary and Rufus were married for more than 16 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Andrew, Zigmund, Ignatius and John; four sisters, Clementine Prikryl, Hattie Dahl ,Olga Matl and Roselee Prikryl; lst wife, Emily Prikryl and 2nd wife, Mary Prikryl.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Beck and husband Charles of Cedar Park, one son, Rufus R. Prikryl Jr.and his wife Sylvia of San Antonio; three grandchildren he dearly loved, Ramona Martinez and her husband, Jimmy of Cedar Park, Travis M. Prikryl and his wife, Kelly of Phoenix, Arizona; and Chelsea Smith and her husband, Matthew of Boerne; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Martinez, Noah Martinez of Cedar Park and Emma Smith of Boerne.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Mar 29, 2015 from 6-8 PM and rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM at Providence Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, 30 March 2015 at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church at Granger with the Father David Leibham officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Krivacka, Latius Prikryl, Mark Doerr, Jeffery Doerr, James Prikryl, and Robert Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers are Cary Prikryl, David Naiver, Michael Doerr, Dan Prikryl, Charles Kitowski, Richard Robinson, JD Downs, Matthew Smith, Jimmy Martinez and Noah Martinez.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SS Cyril & Methodius Church or to a Charity of choice.
