Born in Iowa but soon moved to SD, where he spent the rest of his life, mainly in the Black Hills. Worked on area ranches, went to France for WWI in 1918, then back to the Hills where he married, worked for Penn. Cty. Road Dept., had a small ranch near Hill City, and raised two daughters. Died @ Fitzsimmons V.A. Hosp in Denver; buried at Black Hills National Cemetery. Wife Alice M. HALE died 2000, also in Denver, but also buried at BHNC.
