George Albert Jessep was a civilian casualty of WW2
George was born in Greenwich, the son of Edward George and Florence Louisa Jessep (nee White) and was the husband of Sivell Elizabeth Jessep (nee Bowes) of Hughes House, Deptford, SE8.
Sadly George, an Air Raid Warden, perished as a result of bomb explosion in Borthwick Road on the 10th September where he was badly injured, but passed away the following day at the Miller Hospital. George was laid to rest in a public grave with 9 others at GREENWICH CEMETERY on the 17th September 1940.
He was awarded the Borough of Greenwich Certificate of Gallantry for his actions in warning children passing nearby to the St. Nicholas Recreation Ground of the danger.
At the time of his passing George was 33 years of age.
