Charles L. Stephenson, 94, passed away Monday December 5, 2022 at Wedgewood Estates in Mansfield, OH where he had resided since January, 2021. Prior to Wedgewood Estates Charles lived in Bellville, OH for 63 years

Charles was born February 28, 1928 in Shawnee, OH. His family moved to Lucas, OH while he was in high school and he graduated from Lucas High School in 1945. He was employed for 33 years with the former Mansfield Tire & Rubber Co. as a "tire builder" for most of those years. During his early career he also drove a school bus for 13 years for the former Charles Vale bus company and Madison Comprehensive Schools. Following the closing of Mansfield Tire & Rubber Co., for 11 years he drove a bus for Mansfield Metropolitan Housing Authority where he took senior citizens for shopping trips and returned them to their places of residence.

Charles was the oldest child of Elden L. Stephenson and Ellen (Harvey) Stephenson, both deceased. He is survived by his sister, Linda Kanzig of Ashland, OH; two sons, Robert (Cheryl) Stephenson of Findlay, OH and William Stephenson of Lucas, OH; and daughter, Carol (Rick) Palange of Bellville, OH. Also surviving are ten grandchildren including Amanda (Allan) Aubrey, Sarah (Ryan) Schmitz, Nancy (Chad) Hiser, Jarrod (Sarah) Wiggins, Audra (Joe) Foltz, Nick Palange, Bethany Stephenson, Scott (Courtney) Stephenson, Keith Stephenson, and Justin Stephenson; 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Charles was also preceded in death by his wife of nearly 62 years, Jo Anne T. (Cox) Stephenson; brother Jack (Angie) Stephenson of Lucas, OH and nephew Jack (Annette) Stephenson, Jr.

Charles was also known as Charlie, Chuck, or Steve depending upon how people might have come to know him. His wife always called him Steve although people who knew him prior to their marriage, or were from his "side" of the family, called him Charlie or Chuck.

He was a dedicated caregiver to his wife for many years and always provided for his family before himself. He enjoyed watching sports and camping with his family in his younger years. He was an accomplished handy man.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided to Charles by Wedgewood Estates, Ohio Health Hospice, and special attention and care provided by grand-daughter Bethany Stephenson and niece Debbie Stephenson.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 5-8 PM at the Bellville Butler Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 81 Mill Rd., Bellville, OH. The funeral service will be held Friday December 9 at 11 AM at the Bellville Butler Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes. Burial will follow at the Bellville Cemetery. Pastor John Dodds will officiate.
