Tempe was born in Albuquerque NM, on May 1, 1923, to Maud Vida Nelson and Howard Asa Gilbert. Tempe was the oldest of six children.
Tempe attended NMA&M, now New Mexico State University, leaving to marry Lt. Richard G. Marek Sr. in Mineral Wells, TX on June 27, 1942.
Tempe was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Richard, granddaughter, Kelsey Davis, brothers, Creighton Gilbert, John Gilbert and William Gilbert, sisters-in-law, Cecilia Gilbert and Priscilla Gilbert and brothers-in-law, Rollin Dexter and Hal Burns.
Tempe is survived by her children, Judith (David) Morris of Port Angeles, WA, Jo (Paul) Hanson of Bastrop, TX, Richard (Aurelia) Marek Jr. of Covington, LA, Jane (Gerry) Tully, Glencoe, NM and Jeanette (Ronnie) Scott of Orla, TX. Tempe is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Tempe is survived by two sisters, Rosemary Dexter of Atascadero, CA and Ann Ferkovich of Santa Fé, NM and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family celebration was held in late October of 2022.
