John S Curby was the son of James H. Curby & Elizabeth Jane Cook, born in Illinois in 1852. He moved to Missouri with his parents and siblings around 1870, then John moved to Kansas on his own around 1878.
He married Viola Gertrude Thompson on October 23, 1879, they had two children, son Thompson Curby and daughter M. C. Curby.
At 31 and a half years old, John died while seeing a doctor in Winfield, Kansas for his kidney/diabetes problems. He was laid to rest at the Fredonia City Cemetery.
