Huey was the fifth child of John and Katie Daniel. His siblings were James E., Charlie Alexander, John Rawlings, Lela Ann, Joseph M., Grover Cleveland, William Gaillard, Rawlings Talbert and George Edward Daniel.
He was born and raised in Claiborne. In 1903 he moved to Beaumont in Monroe County to accept the position as Post Master. He married Annie Bertran Galloway, also of Claiborne, on Sept. 24, 1903 at her father's home in Claiborne. They apparently remained in Beaumont until 1910 when they moved to Perdue Hill in Monroe County. They made their home here until Hugh's death in 1914.
