Elwood Preston Alexander, affectionately known as "Shorty", 86, of Manteo NC, died Sunday, January 26, 2014. He was born in Plymouth, NC, to the late Henry Wilson, and Orphia Hassell Alexander. Elwood was a member of the Manteo Baptist Church, and worked for the National Park Service.
He is survived by his wife, Donis Creef Alexander; his sons, Charles Preston Alexander, and his wife Virginia, of Plymouth NC, George Henry Alexander, of Manteo, NC, Troy Joe Alexander, and his wife Sandy, of Currituck, NC, and Glen Lawrence Alexander, and his wife Judy, of Lynchburg, VA; step son, Roy Woodley Parrish, of Wanchese, NC; grandchildren, Jaine Alexander Sundeen, Brittany Alexander, Marzella Alexander Brice, and Kristy Dedmarias; Great grandchildren, Charles Sundeen, Angie Sundeen, Amelia Sundeen, M.J. Brice, Andrew Huntington, and Brantley Sheldon. Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Gloria Jean Alexander, and Patty Lavon Alexander; a step son, John Vincent Parrish; his sister, Estel Equils; brother, Herb Alexander; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Manteo Baptist Church, on Friday, January 31, at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Ken Simpson officiating. A visitation will be held from 12:00 until 1:00 pm prior to the service.
