Final rites for John Franklin Simmons, 79, of Rt. 1, Haw River, will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Haw Fields Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Simmons died in a Burlington hospital Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock after a brief illness.

The service will be conducted the the Rev. Donald A Campbell, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Simmons was the son of the late Allen and Ellen Lassiter Simmons. He was a retired employee of White Furniture Co. of Hillsborough.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillie Cook Simmons of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Grant of Rt. 1, Haw River; one son, Wesley Simmons of Rt. 2, Durham; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Cockerham of State Road, Mrs. Mamie Bunker and Mrs. Lillie Johnson, both of Rt. 2, Mebane, and Mrs. Dicie Thompson of Vera Beach, Fla.; one brother, Tom Simmons of Graham; and five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The body will remain at Walker's Funeral Home in Mebane until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock.
