James Ross, age 85, of Rudyard, Michigan, died in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, on November 18, 2022. He was born in DeTour Village, Michigan, on June 23, 1937, to Elmer and Mabel (Culham) Ross.
James spent his young childhood in DeTour, Michigan, at the age of five his family moved to Rudyard where he graduated from in 1956. He married the love of his life, Jean Marie Royer on December 27, 1958, and built a family life together. James worked various jobs until he started at the Rudyard Areas Schools where he was employed for twenty years, retiring at age forty-seven. He went on to build many homes in the EUP as well as on the Coast of Oregon. James and Jean enjoyed wintering in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Newport, Oregon.
James loved to keep busy and was always working on something from sunrise to sunset. He loved gardening, hunting, and traveling to see family that lived throughout the States. He enjoyed collecting and refurbishing old cars and tractors. He especially loved playing cards and games with family and friends, there was a lot of laughs and teasing during those games.
James is survived by his son, Michael James (Joyce) Ross of Rudyard; daughter, Marcy Jo (Bryan) Kangas of Rudyard; grandchildren, Emily (Mike) DeYoung, Rachel Ross, Megan Ross, Derek Ross, Christopher Jefferys, Briana (Isiah) Otten; great-grandchildren, Jaycob, Allie, Emma, Lucy, Ryan, Jaycee, Michael, Trenton, Bailey, Aiden, Addy, Adrick, Aiken, Asher, and Bryan; sister, Dorothy Claunch of Louisiana; brothers, Harold (Ramona) Ross of Florida, Richard (Stephanie) Ross of Minnesota, and Johnny Ross of Eugene, Oregon; and sister-in-law, Alice (Clint) Spring of Rudyard.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Jean; parents, Elmer and Mabel Ross; brother, Glen Ross; and brothers-in-law, Ronald (Karen) Royer and James Royer.
A Graveside service will be held in the Spring of 2023.
