Klassen, Grace (nee Schaefer) A.T.C.M. -
Of New Hamburg, died, peacefully, at her residence, Nithview Home, in her 98th year. Loving mother of Connie and husband Martin Bender of Kitchener. Dear grandmother of Jeff Bender, Dr. Jennifer Bender, Tom Bender and Robin Bender. Sadly missed by her sister-in-law, Elaine Schaefer of New Hamburg and several nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her husband, Nicklas Klassen, January 6, 1993; parents, Charles and Emma (Ruthig) Schaefer; sisters, Dolores (Pet) Klassen and husband Constantine, Marie Schaefer; brothers, Walter Schaefer and Lorne Schaefer. Grace was the last surviving member of her family. She will be missed by her many friends and family. Grace was a teacher. She loved teaching and taught for many years in New Hamburg, Petersburg and Heidelberg as well as supply teaching in area schools. For all of her adult life, until she was 90, she taught music and was registered with the ORMTA. Her former school pupils and music pupils are many. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, New Hamburg where she taught Sunday School, filled in as organist from time to time and was a member of the Ladies Guild.
Grace's family invites friends and relatives to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, ON N3A 1K2 for visitation today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 at 11 am at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, New Hamburg, Pastor James Keller to officiate. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.
