Vallie Mae Hill Allen was born on July 14th, 1926, in Carthage, Texas, to Robert P. Hill and Essie B. Hill. Vallie grew up in Carthage with her four sisters and attended Carthage High School. As a young girl, her family went to Tacoma, Washington, where they worked in the navy shipyards. She was named queen of the Tacoma Bathing Beauty contest held during the Navy Yard's annual picnic. Vallie moved back home to Carthage where she married Ralph Allen Jr., on November 8th, 1946. Shortly after they got married, they moved to Pasadena, Texas, began to build their family, and raise their three beautiful children, Bobby, Larry, and Suzanne. During their time in Pasadena, Vallie worked at Champion Paper and started a business hanging wallpaper for many years before moving back to Carthage upon her husband's retirement. Ralph and Vallie were married for 58 years until his passing in 2005.
Vallie was an avid bowler, loved playing dominoes, volunteered for the Shriners Hospital for Children, was an Astro's fan, and a member of the potpourri club. Vallie's passion was spending time with her family and friends. Vallie was a thoughtful, generous, and caring person to all who knew her. Vallie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Dorothy Sue Reed, Billie Jean Lee, Elizabeth Ann Rogers, and Mary Sue Briggs, and son Larry Allen.
