Jay Harlin Cook, age 62, of Helenwood, passed away Friday evening, May 26. He was the son of the late Bratcher Cook and the late Mary Cook. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Loretta Cook; two sisters: Elsie Simpson, and Ernie Cook; three brothers, Calvin, Clifton and Ernest Cook. Survivors: wife, Martha Byrd Cook, of Helenwood, one son, Wayne Lenord [?] Cook, of Oneida; one step son, Dennis Ray Byrd, of Huntsville; one sister: Flonnie Duncan of Dalton, Ga.; one brother, Donnie Cook, of Royal Blue, Tenn.; five granddaughters, Genevia Gail Cook, Angelia Gail Byrd, Denise Rae Byrd, Melissia Dean Byrd, Mary Lovinia Byrd, all of Huntsville; one grandson, Ricky Dewayne Byrd, of Huntsville, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Mill Branch Baptist Church, 2 p.m. Monday, May 29, with Rev. Finley Hatfield and Rev. Christopher Day officiating. Burial in the Mill Branch Cemetery.
