Andrew Thomas Celmer , 86, Plymouth, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown.
Born in Plymouth, Nov. 28, 1918, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret (Byorick) Celmer . Mr. Celmer was formerly employed at the Truesdale and Huber Coal Collieries. Later, he was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Plymouth. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Union. A World War II veteran, he served as an electrician's mate third class with the United States Seabees in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater. An active member of the Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church, he served as station steward, Sunday school superintendent, secretary of the church, choir member and on the board of trustees. He served for more than 50 years as a Sunday school teacher and recently retired as church custodian.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas; and sisters, Bertha Pacropis, Ruth Wolfe and Helen Gorkiewicz.
His main interests in life were his church and family. He and his wife, the former Ruth Ann Sims, of Plymouth, would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on November 27. He is also survived by children, Andrea and Carl Sutton, Canton; and William and Ann Celmer , Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Carl Sutton, Plymouth; Stacey Sutton, Harrisburg; Andrew and Angi Celmer , Plymouth; and William Celmer , Wapwallopen; great granddaughter, Allyson Celmer , Plymouth; sisters, Ann Gallagher, Pinellas Park, Fla.; Frances Rishofsky, Manville, N.J.; Mildred Bogumil, Wilkes-Barre; Margaret Paddock, California; brother, Frank Celmer , Indiana; numerous sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, from the Williams Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Plymouth, with Rev. Ronald Gottstein.
