RANSOM RIDGE'S WILL LOCATED FROM BUTLER COUNTY, KANSAS

I, Ransom Ridge of Butler county State of Kansas Being of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament to wit,
I desire all my debts and burial Expenses paid out of my Estate.
I bequeath and give unto my wife Sirrilda Ridge as her absolute property the South west Quarter Section Sixteen, Township Twenty seven, Range Five, the North west 1/4 of Twenty One Section Twenty One, Township Twenty Seven, Range Five the South East 1/4 of the north East 1/4 Section Twenty, Township Twenty Seven, Range five also Seven acres north of the Rail Road in South west quarter Twenty One, Township Twenty seven of Range five all in Spring Township Butler county, Kansas, also one chair horse or mare also my household and Kitchen furniture, Except all money notes and accounts.

I give unto my five children named Thomas D. Ridge, Martha E. Hunt, Mary E, Snyder, James M. Ridge and Fannie E. Steele, the east half of the North west quarter Section Twenty Seven, Range four, in Augusta Township, Butler county State of Kansas to be sold as they may chose and the proceeds Equally divided Between Said named five children. I give unto my said children personal property here fore not named to be sold and proceeds Equally Divvied between them, also give unto my said Children above named all my money notes and accounts to collected and divided Equal with them.

I appoint my son Thomas D. Ridge of Buchanan County, State of Missouri, executor of this my last will with the understanding that he as executor shall give his personal bond in such sum as the legally Constituted court may Require for the faithfully carrying out the provisions of this my last will and Testament declaring all former wills made by me null and void.

In witness whereof I, Ransom Ridge To This my last will and testament Subscribed my names this 9th of March 1889 A.D.

Paul Hugh Ridge born July 2, 1912, on a farm near Agency, Missouri, his wife Stella Spoor Ridge born July 2, 1914, were married September 1, 1934. We have two sons, Wayne Paul and Walter Leroy, born Nov. 29, 1944; Wayne was born October 10, 1936, eight years older than Walter. Wayne has three children, Cindy Ann Ridge, born November 12, 1959 (Same as cousin Carol Ann Albee, and in the same room in the Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph, Mo.) Wayne's other two children are Pamela Kay, born July 6, 1960 and is engaged to marry Chris Kault since 1981; and Robert Paul Ridge, born on August 24, 1961, and is a Lance Corporal in the U. S. Marines, is studying for a degree in Business Administration through the Marines program. He joined the Marines in 1981. Wayne married Mary Janeal Kneaide in the Christian Church and the family moved to California in 1960.
Walter Leroy married Yolanda Mejia in 1964 in the St. James Catholic Church in St. Joseph, they had three children, Arora Dawn was born December 24, 1965, is a senior in Benton High School; Levita Benita was born December 31, 1966, is a junior in Bishop La Blond High Scholl and at Hillyards for Electronic training; Eva Temperance was born December 25, 1970, is in the 7th grade at St. Patrick's School, St. Joseph.
Paul's great grandfather Ransom Ridge was born in 1813, Randolph County, North Carolina, first married to Sally Nance on October 19, 1832, also from Randolph County. His second marriage was to Elizabeth Arnold, also from Randolph County, on October 11, 1836, Elizabeth was born November 1, 1815 in North Carolina and died on March 27, 1876 in Buchanan County, Missouri. Ransom Ridge married the third time on May 15, 1878 to Zerilda Roberts in Buchanan County, Missouri. Zerdila was born in 1847 in Indiana and died in 1937. Ransom, Elizabeth and Zerilda Ridge are all buried in Frazier Cemetery. Ransom died on July 5, 1889 in Carrol County, Arkansas . His heirs (shown in Probate records) were listed as Zerilda Ridge; Thomas Dugan Ridge, (our grandfather) Martha E. Hunt, Mary E. Snyder, James M, Ridge and Fannie E. Steele. Thomas D. Ridge was named Executor, but was not a resident of Kansas, so Mary E. Snyder was appointed.
Ransom and Elizabeth Ridge came to Center Township, Buchanan County, Missouri when Sparta had but thirteen streets at that time. They later moved to Tremont Township. He was Justice of the Peace of that Township from October 7, 1844 for a four year term. He was on the Buchanan County Court from 1862-1864. He was Buchanan County Sheriff from 1864-1866.
Ransom's first marriage to Sally Nance, she had one child, named Martha E. His second marriage to Elizabeth Arnold, who had four children, they were, Thomas D., Mary Evelyn, James M., and Frances Elizabeth.
In the latter part of the 1870's he and Zerilda moved to Butler County, Kansas, near Haverhill. He lived here until his death, which apparently occurred while visiting in Carroll County, Arkansas.
Larkin and Celia Arnold were the parents of Elizabeth Ridge and had eleven children. Celia was the daughter of Jacob , born in 1772 and died in 1835. Jacob was the second son of John D. and Mary Garren. John was the eldest son of David , Sr. (or Theobald Pfault, Sr.). Imigrant of 1739 and his wife Catherine Spengel, The Pfauts probably came from near the Weckar River east of the Rhine River in what is now Baden and Wurtemberg State Germany.
Thomas Dugan (second child) born August 5, 1837 in North Carolina and died July 27, 1910 (he was Paul Hugh's grandfather) in Buchanan County. Thomas married Harriett F. Kirtley born in 1844, and died 1896. Both are buried in the Frazier Cemetery. He served in the Civil War, 87 Regiment of E. M. M. as a Lieutenant. He had five brothers and sisters; Ranson M, Leslie M., Benjamin, Arthur W. (Paul H.'s dad) and infant son named True born June 18, 1886, and died Aug. 20, 1886.
The place where Thomas Dugan (Paul's grandfather ) Ridge lived was the old Ransom Ridge (Paul's great grandfather) which was homesteaded around 1846. Thomas Dugan's brother was Uncle Doc Ridge who lived on top of Boon Hill east of Agency, Mo. There was a Rock House used as a school which was one of the first schools in Buchanan Co. This building was built by Indians of native rock. Agency was then called Agency Ford.
McDonald's were one of the first families to preempt ground, the Thompson Kale and ground in Platte River bottom, near the old Staggs Farm. Also ground at the Cross-roads East of Agency one mile and north of H. H. The Ridge is to the south of H. H.
Paul's Grand-parents on his mother's side was Mary Ellen Auxier Jones and Marshall Jones who lived on mile closer to Agency. They had an old smoke house that was off limits to children as uncle Henry was a traveler and gone to California al lot. It was kept locked. Grandma had an old parrot in a cage and kept it covered as it used bad language.
Marshall and Mary E. Jones had four children; Marshall Jones, Susan Dimple Ridge (Paul's mother), Harvey Jones and Lee Jones. This Marshall married Nora Miller and had four children. Susan Dimple Jones married Arthur Ridge and had five children; Chester Lee Ridge, Arthur True, deceased; Paul Hugh Ridge, Ronald Eugene Ridge, and Regenia Dimple Harned. Paul's Great-grandmother, Mary Ellen Auxier Jones had our brother and sisters who were: Ike, Henry, Jeff and Jane Large.

RIDGE, RANSOM

Ransom Ridge was born May 8, 1813 in Randolph Co., North Carolina. He was married there to Sally Nance in 1832. They had one child Martha E. (1834-1927) married Noah Dunbar. Ransom then married a second time in 1836 to Elizabeth Arnold who was born November 1, 1815 in North Carolina. She was the daughter of Larkin and Celia () Arnold. Before leaving North Carolina they had a son Thomas Dugan (1837-1910) married Harriett F. Kirtley. Ransom and his family moved to Center Township, Buchanan Co., Mo. In 1842 when Sparta was the county seat. They later moved to Tremont Township near Rock House Prairie in Buchanan Co. He was Justice of the Peace in 1844. They had three more children: Mary Evelyn (1842-1922) married John Rodger Snyder; James M. (1852-1933) married Elizabeth J. Matney; and Frances Elizabeth (1859-1911) married William H. Steele. Ransom Ridge was on the Buchanan County Court from 1862-1864. He was Buchanan County Sheriff from 1864-1866. After his wife, Elizabeth passed away March 27, 1876 he remarried in 1878 Zerilda Roberts. They moved to Spring Township, Butler Co,, Kansas where they lived until Ransom's death in 1889 in Carroll County, Arkansas. He is buried at Frazer Cemetery, Buchanan Co., Mo.
Mary Evelyn Ridge and John Rodger Snyder were married September 24, 1862. They had three children; Anna Eleanor (1864-1950); Jesse Winburn (1866-1942) married Allie Thompson; and James Rodger (1873-1925 married Ora H. Myers in 1909 in Atchison Co., Kansas.
James and Ora had five children: Anna Margaret (1910) married Ellsworth LaFollette; Jesse Rodger (1912-1931) who died after being thrown from a horse; Mary Evelyn (1919) married Max Kline; Ora (1920); and Betty Irene (1924) married 1st Morgan Buchanan, married 2nd Ira Hulsey and married 3rd Gerald (Hank) Pugh.
Mary Evalyn Snyder married Max Spencer Kline November 17, 1939. He is the son of Cyrus and Rhoda (Graham) Kline of Agency. He is a Civil Engineer and they have lived most of their married life in Little Rock, Arkansas where he worked for the Corps of Engineers, They have two sons both Electrical Engineers. Rodger Spencer was born May 16, 1943 in Little Rock. He married Nancy Sue Nickels, daughter of Dr. W. W. and Lucy M. (Williams) Nickels of Walnut Ridge Arkansas on May 16, 1955. They have two sons Rodger Nickels born January 31, 1966 and Nathan Spencer born March 23, 1968. Rodger works for the Conway Communications Exchange a computer firm in Conway, Arkansas. Richard Max was born February 6, 1945 in Little Rock. He married Wanda Louise Gibbs of Pine Bluff, Arkansas on June 2, 1967. They have three daughters; Tracy Lynne born June 11, 1970; Rachel Suzanne born March 4, 1973; and Brook Ann born September 20, 1979. Richard is employed at Sparks Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
