"Herman Chesnut, 25, a truck driver, of Garfield Ave. here, was fatally injured shortly after 6 o'clock last night, when a low telephone wire knocked him from the top of a truck load of hay on which he was riding on Highway 63, six miles south of Rolla, Missouri."
"Young Chesnut and a helper, Earl Drumright, also of West Plains, had been to Vincennes, Ind., to take a load of cattle for W.W. Lambert, West Plains livestock dealer, and were bringing back a truck load of hay. Just out of Rolla, Chesnut, who had been driving for several hours, turned the wheel over to Drumright so that he might rest awhile, Chesnut told Drumright he believed he would get on top of the hay and sleep for a little while. He apparently had just reached the top of the hay when the accident occurred, as the owner of a filling station, near which the accident occurred and who witnessed the accident, said that he noticed Chesnut reach his arms up seemingly to stretch himself. An instant later the wire struck him and knocked him to the ground."
"The young man who was driving the truck did not miss Chesnut until he had driven a mile and a half on down the highway. When he called to Chesnut to see if he was alright, Chesnut did not answer and Drumright stopped the truck to see about him. Finding that Chesnut was gone,
Drumright hailed a passing motorist, who took him back to the scene of the accident."
"Chesnut skull was fractured and he also suffered other severe bruises and abrasions about the head and neck. He was rushed to the Rolla Hospital in Rolla, and relatives were summoned to his bedside."
"Mrs. Chesnut, formerly Miss Maxine Barrett, with her brother, W.M.(Bus) Barrett Jr. , city street commissioner of West Plains, reached the hospital an hour or so before the young man passed away at 1:20 o'clock this morning. Chesnut died without regaining consciousness."

He was married three years ago to Miss Maxine Barrett of West Plains, their third wedding anniversary having passed the day prior to the accident. Besides his widow, the young man is survived by one small son, Donald, who is 18 months old. Also by his mother, Mrs. Charles Chesnut (Sarah (Long) Chesnut, of Blue Mound district, 4 sisters, Mrs. G. C. Foster of Aux Vasse, MO., Mrs. Emory Coursey of Springdale, Ind., Mrs. Wayne Spears of South Fork, and Mrs. Carol Newman of the Homeland district; one brother, Roy Chesnut of the Homeland district, and three half brothers, C.O.
