Ralph David Lawton, Sr. was the second of five children born to the late Elder Maxie and Mrs. Lucile Golden Lawton. He was born on April 6, 1938 at Georgia Infirmary Hospital in Savannah, GA. He received his education from St. Mary Catholic School, Cuyler Junior High School and graduated from Woodville High School. After graduation, Elder Lawton enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and served for four years. After being honorably discharged, he relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia, where he became a Longshoreman. Later on in life, he became the owner and operator of Lawton's Amoco and Auto Repair Services for many years. He was a real "people" person. He was always willing to "lend a hand" and help out in a time of need.

At the age of 27, Elder Lawton surrendered his will to the will of the Lord and gave his life to Jesus. Soon after, he laid hold to the Apostolic faith and was baptized in Jesus name, according to Acts 2:38, and he received the gift of the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues. As an Apostolic Pentecostal, he became a licensed Minister and an ordained Elder in the Lord's church, serving at the Prayer and Deliverance Center of the Apostolic Faith.

He met Geneva Solomon and had his "Fabulous Five," as he would say. He will always be remembered for saying one of his favorite lines, "I was just thinking about you." He is already sorely missed.

On February 2, 2022, Elder Lawton stepped beyond the veil of death, to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and join that great cloud of witnesses. He was preceded on his Heavenly Expedition by his parents; his devoted daughter, Geneva Pearl Lawton; brothers: Lucius LaVarn "Moon" Lawton and Maxie Lawton, Jr.; sister, Lucile Lawton Byrd; grandson, Da'Arnye D. Edwards; and granddaughter, Eljahnae Omega Lawton.

He leaves a legacy and many precious memories to: two daughters: Ralpheana Lawton and Savaadra Lawton; two sons: Ralph Lawton, Jr. and Shannon Lawton; a very special and devoted grandson, Aaron Lawton; his devoted and surviving sister, Barbara Lawton Johnson; a special cousin, who was like a sister, Linda S. Grant; and a host of loving grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
