Kenneth Eugene Bland, 63 of Whitehall, died Monday at Bloomington Hospital.

Born January 24, 1937 in Newark, he was the son of Ralph and Elizabeth May Trowbridge Bland.

A licensed auctioneer and appraiser, he owned and operated Colonel Kenny E. Bland Auctions since 1977. He previously operated an auto damage appraisal service and worked for the former Graham Motor Company and Tom O'Daniel Ford in Bloomington. He was also a licensed Realtor.

A 1953 graduate of Solsberry High School, he played on the team that won the basketball sectionals in 1953 and was president of the Solsberry Alumni Association.

He was a member of the Indiana Auctioneer's and National Realtor's associations, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Culbert Bland; one daughter, Dianna Lynne Hancock of Worthington; two sons, Douglas Eugene Bland of Whitehall and Dirk Randall Bland of Bloomington; his mother of Bloomington; one sister, Linda Benjamin of Sequin, Texas; and one brother, Ronald Keith Bland of Solsberry.

He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Leon, in infancy.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with the Revs. Don Smith and Brian White officiating. Burial will be at Gross Cemetery in Whitehall.

Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gross Cemetery Fund, Newark Cemetery or St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Note: According to Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington, those attending Kenny's visitation were more in number than for anyone they had ever hosted, even when compared to viewing for a Past President of Indiana University upon his death. Hours for Kenny's visitation were extended to 12:00 midnight, with dozens waiting in line. Many older people who could not tolerate the wait in line reluctantly had to leave; and many reported there were no parking spaces available even though the funeral home sits directly abutting a major shopping mall, therefore, disappointed they could not pay their respects at the viewing. Kenny's wife, Sherry, did not leave his casket the entire evening, but stood, smiled, greeted and hugged every one of these people, well over 1,000. When asked how she managed, she said "Kenny would've wanted me to do this, I can do it for him".
