Hays -- Marvin Joseph Dinkel, 58, died Monday, March 17, 2003. He was born Nov. 12, 1944, in Hays to Joseph L. and Helen M. (Kuhn) Dinkel.

He graduated from Otis High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Fort Hays State University. He taught for the Hays USD 489 for 13 years and also owned and operated Dinkel Construction Co. He retired in December 2001 after working 15 years for the Kansas Department of Human Resources as industrial safety coordinator in the accident prevention section. He enjoyed woodworking projects, landscaping and attending auto races.

Survivors include companion, Linda Sterba, Topeka; two sons, Lee M. Dinkel and his wife, Danna, their children, Savanna and Hanna, all of Flower Mound, Texas, and Jeffery L. Dinkel and his wife Marcia and their children, Austin and Karee, all of Hays; a sister Ellen and her husband Kent, Albert; and two nephews, Jesse Schriner, Lee's Summitt, Mo., and Joey Schriner, Olathe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph L. and Helen M. (Kuhn) Dinkel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with a parish vigil at 7 p.m., and from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday, all at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Earl Befort officiating; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.

Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or the Humane Society.
