the son of Ruth and Hobart Spencer, one of 6 children. Tony joined the US Navy in 1960, served as an air traffic controller and air crewman, retiring as a Senior Chief. He survived a plane crash in the Pacific Atoll called Midway Island. 6people died, Tony and another officer were able to rip the door off, saving the other 16 people before the plane burned. Tony attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, returned to Centralia, WA to teach school. After he retired , he remodeled many homes, a talented carpenter and much appreciated by those he worked for and those he knew.
