Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oakdale, La. for Joann Abrusley, 97, who died November 16, 2022, at Maison de Lafayette.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Vijaya Peddoju.
Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Oakdale, La.
Joann was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be remembered for her strong will to live life to the fullest. She adored her family and cherished every opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments. Her door was always open to friends who were cheerfully offered a cup of coffee.
Joann was an accomplished seamstress and gardener. From her artist's canvas to her garden, she created life-scapes that captured her creativity and love of the outdoors.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marie Ruggiero (Larry) and Shirley Strother (Derrel); her sister Nina Tallis of Johnstown, Pa.; 8 grandchildren, Ashley Benson (Scott), Rene' Waldrop (Mike), Ryan Richard (Kathleen), Tonya Hebert (Ross), Darren Strother (Nicole), Lance Strother (Kat), Brandi Strother, Caroline Strother; and 21 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 79 years, Bill Abrusley; parents Joseph and Josephine Cancellieri; brother, Angelo Cancellieri; and sister Frances Paolucci.
The family would like to thank Joann's caretakers, Cynthia Berry, and Christina Olivier, for their loving and compassionate care.
Pallbearers honored to serve will be William Bellamy, Landon Strother, Dayuis McNabb, Cooper Hawkins, Trenton Richard, and Jacob Richard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at White Oaks Memorial Chapel, Oakdale, La on Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Joann's memory, or a charity of your choice.
