BETTY ABERNATHY CLEGG

Betty Abernathy Clegg, 53, loving mother, grandmother and great friend, of Front Royal, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Feb. 18th, 2004.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Dr. Michael Normoyle and Dr. Carlyle Crank officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Clegg was born October 11, 1950, in Farmville, VA daughter of Gertrude Anna Daniel Abernathy of Dundas, VA and the late Charlie T. Abernathy, Sr. She was a member of the Browntown Baptist Church, lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and was the first woman to join the Front Royal Kiwanis Club. Betty was employed with Valley Energy for over 20 years. She was married to the late Ulysses Clegg, Jr.

Surviving with her mother are her four loving and dedicated children, Ulysses "J.J." Clegg, Gina R. Clegg, Brian Clegg and his companion Beth Barnett, and Trudi Clegg and her companion Mark Cameron all of Front Royal; one brother, Charles T. Abernathy, Jr. of Richmond; one sister, Caroline Gentry of Hopewell; three grandchildren, Brian Lee Lamb, Marquise Cameron, and Ashton B. Clegg; three nieces of Richmond; one devoted uncle who was like a father, Charles J. Daniel of Richmond; and one special niece, Brenda Steele, who was with her until the end.

Pallbearers will be Bob Aylor, Maurice Bowen, Webb Davis, Richard Hawkins, Eddie Morrison, and Bill Murphy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lois Baker, Alice Grumbly, Modelle Laing, Reba Partlowe, Berniece Poe, and Mary Ann Wood.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
