MARTHA'S OBITUARY
Martha Lee (Poindexter) Martin (96) fell asleep on November 8, 2022, and woke up in her new home with Jesus where she was reunited with her high school sweetheart and husband of 68 1/2 years. Born in Pontotoc, Oklahoma, Martha was the second born of 6 and the only girl in the Poindexter family.

Her family moved to Russett, Oklahoma and she was seated in school next to her soon-to-be sweetheart, Don Martin. He said, "She sure smelled good!" Later their family moved to Bromide, Oklahoma and then back to Pontotoc. Martha and Don kept in contact with each other through the years. They married on July 1, 1945 at his sister's home in Winfield, Kansas, as Don was in the Army Air Corps by this time. Since he was serving in Papua New Guinea, they wrote letters and read the same scriptures every day to feel closer to each other.

Their two oldest daughters were born while attending East Central University. After graduation, they taught school in Kansas for 2 years and soon made their home in Tishomingo, having a son and another daughter. Martha was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Tishomingo, where she served as Sunday School teacher, WMU Director, GA and Acteens Director, VBS Director, Falls Creek cook & sponsor, and choir member for many years. She taught Home Economics in Ravia and First Grade in the Tishomingo Schools until her retirement. Soon afterwards they relocated to Ada Baptist Village in 1992, to be close to family. Together, they served as Baptist Lay Missionaries, traveling to many churches and even Ukraine to share the gospel. Sharing their love of Christ was foremost in their lives and home.

Her love for home and family filled Martha's heart to the point of overflowing to all who had the joy of knowing her. She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her children's clothes and made sure there was always enough food for the many family members and friends who frequented their table. Serving the Lord and her family was her heartbeat, and hospitality was one of her God-given gifts. Those who gathered at her table will agree that her blackberry cobbler with hand picked berries was the best, with her pecan pies and banana nut cake close behind.

Even more than her extraordinary hospitality skills was the time and attention she gave to family, friends and all who needed a heart to care. Many found in her a mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend. You always felt like a better you after being with her joyful spirit. Martha loved being active and playing basketball as a child, giving her spunk and endurance as she weathered tender years as Don's caregiver.

Martha's life is celebrated by her children, Donna (Lannie) Hudson, Sue (Mel, deceased) Young, Randy (Lisa) Martin, and Patti (Bruce) Bonar. She leaves 12 grandchildren (1 deceased) and 37 great grandchildren.

As much as she loved and cared for her family, friends and anyone who walked through her door and sat at her table, Martha loved Jesus, and her joy was in Him. Living at the Baptist Village for over 30 years, a special thank you goes to her many friends there with whom she attended worship services, music programs, bible studies, made many quilts and took fall foliage and Christmas light tours. You may honor Martha by supporting Baptist Village Communities of Oklahoma in Martha's name. Visitation will be at Criswell Funeral Home in Ada on Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 5-7pm. Her family only burial will be held in her hometown of Pontotoc, Oklahoma, where she will be laid to rest next to her parents, W.C. & Alice Poindexter and her husband Don.
