Richard W. "Dick" Spittler, age 75, of Clinton, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at his home.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the Pape Funeral Home. As an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan Dick would like you to wear your Hawkeye apparel for the visitation. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Dick was born in Clinton on February 19, 1947, the son of Karl W. and Mary Kathleen (Thyne) Spittler.

He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1965 and attended Clinton Community College.

He served with the U.S. Army, with 2 tours of duty during the Vietnam War.

Dick married Kay Lorraine Johnson on August 2, 1969 at St. Irenaeus Church in Clinton.

He had been employed at Chemplex, the Clinton Herald, Gateway Travel and with Newman Cleaning Systems.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the AMVETS.

Dick coached his children and grandchildren in youth football, softball, and baseball.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and photography.

He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Dick was a social butterfly who left an imprint on the hearts of many friends that he considered family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Christopher James; 2 sisters, Barb Spittler and Bernadette Koch; his mother and father-in-law, Carl and Margery Johnson, and 2 brothers-in-law, Ronald Johnson and Dan Engler.
