Charles Henry Hoeft

Charles Henry Hoeft, 91, Union, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Washington.
He was born July 4, 1908, in Union, son of the late Henry Hoeft and wife Dora, nee Fink.
He received his education in Union.
On March 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Griffin at Zion Evangelical Church, Union. The couple made their home in Union, moved to Jeffriesburg in 1956 and then back to Union in 1969.
Mr. Hoeft served his country in the Army, participating in battle at Normandy, Germany and Northern France. He served from June 1942, receiving a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Ribbon, Silver Star and European Theater Ribbon.
He was wounded in action in France October 1, 1944, and was discharged as staff sergeant in May 1945.
Mr. Hoeft had been a carpenter for Kottmeyer Construction Company. He later worked at Permaneer, retired from there in 1975 and continued carpentry and farming.
He was a member of the D.A.V. and a past member of the First Baptist Church.
Mr. Hoeft was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Henry Hoeft; by two brothers, Raymond and Clarence Hoeft; and by two sisters, Lucille Hoeft in infancy and Marie Kenney.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Hoeft, Union; three sons, Charles Michael Hoeft, Jr., and wife Bonnie, Beaufort; James Hoeft and fiancee Connie Hare, St. Clair, and Norman Hoeft and wife Pat, Union; four daughters, Vicky Espowe and husband Jerry, Union, Judy Pickard and husband Doug, Beaufort, Phyllis Coffman and husband Lynn, Washington, and Jackie Struttmann and husband Dennis, O'Fallon, Illinois; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Kottmeyer, Union; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, with Rev. Bill Luttrell officiating. Interment followed in Midlawn Cemetery, Union.
The Hoeft family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
