Frieda Joyce Calvert, 77, of Columbia left us on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born December 17, 1944, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Delbert Young and Winifred Dorman. She was the second of ten children.
She met Roy Calvert in Columbia, Missouri in 1960. She knew that he was her one and only love so she proposed, and he said yes. They were so young their parents asked them to wait one year. They were married on May 26, 1961. They spent over 61 years together and had two children, Joyce Ann Davis and Roy James Calvert.
Family was her main focus in life. She was happiest when she was cooking a large meal for anyone that stopped by. She knew no strangers- they were friends she hadn't met yet.
She is survived by her husband, daughter, granddaughters Arin Davis, and Megan (Damian) Adams, and four grandchildren Ryan McLean, Indianna McLean, Easton Adams, and Elladee Adams. Siblings Butch Young, Janice Urton of Clinton, Missouri, Don (Jean) Young, Pete (Edie) Young, Cheryl White of Centralia, Robin (Eugene) Prince, 26 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Roy James, as well as sisters Sandy Thompson, Kathy Pfeiler, and brother David Young, and nephew Arthur Del Murphy.
Friends will be received Friday, November 11, 2022, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Parker-Millard Funeral Service in Columbia, Missouri. Funeral services will immediately follow at 10:00 am and burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Columbia, Missouri.
