James was signed before the start of Chelsea first season of 1905/06 as cover for the half-back positions and was at Stamford Bridge for 2 seasons without playing in the League side.
He did however, appear in the clubs first FA Cup tie against the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards, as well as in one other cup tie.
