Lee was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 22, 1944, to Donald and Helen (Snyder) Booton. He was a 1962 graduate of Des Moines East High School, and from there joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He was very active in volunteering for veterans' events and campaigning during elections. Lee enjoyed history and spent time learning genealogy and was a part of the Iowa Civil War Battle Flag Committee. Lee was a life member of the Amvets & Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He was an avid collector of baseball cards, stamps, and coins.
He is survived by his sister, Jeannine Hall of El Paso, Illinois; brother, Alan Booton of Ames, Iowa; nieces & nephews, Cyndi (Ray) Wilcox, Greg (Diane) Booton, Lisa (Al) Hardman, Pam Davis, Amy Ambrose, and Kurt Jackson; and numerous cousins, and other nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, and niece, Vicky Jackson.
