Eliza Simpson Ockerman was born Feb. 17, 1856, in West Williams, Ontario, Canada. She was married to C. N. Ockerman in January, 1879, in Park Hill, Ontario. Two years later they moved to Sanilac county, Michigan, then to Owosso, Michigan, where they lived for 19 years. From Owosso they came to Gladwin county, where they have lived for 31 years.To this union were born four children, all living, Robert at home, Will and Roy of near Hockaday and Ruth of Cleveland, Ohio.
In her early youth she became a member of the Primitive Methodist church and lived to the end trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Saviour. She departed this life Sunday morning, Aug. 23, after several weeks of serious illness, at the age of 75 years, six months and 6 days.
Left to mourn her loss are her loving companions with whom she shared the joys and sorrows of life for almost 53 years, three sons, Robert, Will and Roy of Gladwin, one daughter, Mrs. William Roloff of Cleveland, Ohio, 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Wilmot Reed of Deckerville, and three brothers, Solomon Simpson of Whittemore, William Simpson of Port Huron and Miles of Toronto, Canada, and a host of friends and relatives who will remember her as a sincere Christian, a loving wife and mother and a kind and esteemed neighbor. Our loss, but her gain.
Burial services were held at the Hockaday Free Methodist church Tuesday afternoon - conducted by Rev. E. Roloff of Weston, Mich, Interment in Ridge cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 8-27/1931 Column – 1 Page – 1.
