Reuben Gene Wallace Halverson, Sr., 78, of La Crescent, a retiree and landlord, died from unknown causes on Saturday, Dec. 31st, 2011, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

He was born in rural Blackhammer Township, Minn., on July 24, 1933 to Andrew and Cora (Stensgard) Halverson. Reuben worked on his families and local farms in the Houston County area until he moved to La Crescent, where he helped build his current home of 45 years. He worked for Holsum Foods (Metz Baking) in La Crosse, from which he retired after 40 years of work. He also spent his time as an owner and landlord of several properties in La Crosse and La Crescent. When asked, his greatest life achievement was his family, for which he was very grateful. He was married to Yvonne Thiele for 20 years and they had six children.

Reuben is survived by his children, Reuben Jr., Karr, Bridgette and Cort; two grandchildren, Braeden and Kailee; and a sister, Cecelia Vesterse.

Reuben is welcomed in death by many family members, including Torre, his beloved son, who has been waiting for him.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. Mark Jolivette will officiate. Burial will be in Toledo Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to services Friday at the church. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements.
