John Paul Carter, 75, of Sycamore died Saturday, December 27, 1997 at Venoor Hospital in Sycamore.

He was bom February 18, 1922 in Winfield, KS, the son of Grover Cleveland and Pearl Mae (Bennett) Carter, one of six children of a farming family. He was raised in Kansas, Arkansas and Michigan. He married his loving wife Arlene Cross on November 20, 1943 and they raised three children: Cathy, Gary and J. Gregory.

John was a loving family man and a man of deep Christian faith and study. He was an avid horseman and always had a dog. He loved early gospel and country music, as well as walking the sun lit beaches of Grand Haven, Ml. John had wit, gentleness and humor in all his dealings with others. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, at 1 p.m. at the Bethany Community Church, 2215 Bethany Rd., DeKalb, with Rev. Daniel Penn officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKab. Visitation will be Thursday, January 1, from 4 to 8 p. m. and on Friday, January 2, from 1-8 p.m. at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore.
