Nancy Jean (Oxenford) Stephens, age 88 of Brick passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at home. She was born and raised in Point Pleasant Beach, was a 1950 graduate of Point Beach High School, and a 1954 graduate of Glassboro State Teachers College. She began her career as a kindergarten teacher at Osbornville School, where she met her future husband, Robert, and relocated to Brick in 1955. After taking time out to begin a family, she returned to teach kindergarten and first grade at Drum Point Elementary School, retiring in 1994. She was a former member of the Sew and Sews, the Drumpoint Retired Educators Association, and was a lifelong congregant of the Central United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant Beach. She devoted her life, love and attention to her family and students, and enjoyed music, singing, the beach, knitting and reading. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Robert E. Stephens; her loving children, Lisa J. Walker and her husband, Joe of Topsham, ME, Barbara A. Whittaker and her husband, Steve of Brick, Robert B. Stephens and his wife, Suzanne of Solebury, PA, and Peggy A. Callahan and her husband, Pete of Bowdoin, ME; her sisters-in-law, Vilma Oxenford, Elaine Oxenford and Alice Oxenford; five grandchildren, Robert, Carly, Ryan, Katie and Jack; and many nieces and nephews. All may attend a funeral service on Monday, December 20th, 10:00 AM at the Central United Methodist Church - 729 Arnold Ave. Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Brielle, NJ. Weatherhead Young Funeral Home in Brick is in charge of arrangements.
