Linnie Lavinia Carter Griffis (sometimes documeneted as Lennie Lovenia or Linnie Lovenia or Linnie Lovinnie) was the daughter of William "Riley" (son of Jacob and Mary Howard Carter)and Linnie Sapp(daughter of John and Irene Spence Sapp). She was the sister of Macy Mazelle Carter Griffis; Jacob Henry Carter; Mamie Irene Carter Thornton; Wiliiam E. Carter; Susie H. Carter Thornton Renau; Ella Nora Carter Curry; Mildred Carter Lee Griffis; Jackson Carter; Leona Carter Griffis; Miriam Carter Pope. She was the wife of Oscar Raughty Griffis, the son of David A. and Argent Griffis (David A. was the son of David and Louisa Johnson Griffis). She was the mother of: Quinton Griffis; Earl Griffis; Dennis Griffis;Delmus Griffis and possibly others. In the 1930 census, she was living with her family in Screven, Georgia. Also in the household were Argent Griffis (her mother-in-law) and Olin and Edith Griffis (her husband's siblings). At some point, Lavinia moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she died on August 12, 1990. Her husband, Oscar Raughty Griffis had predeceased her on May 24, 1967. Both of them are buried in the Big Creeek Cemetery in K'Ville, Wayne County, Georgia. Hazel Westberry Paesano remembers visiting her great aunt "Benny" in Florida and states at one time Lavinia (Aunt Benny) lived in Lake Placid, Florida. She also remembers that Lavinia's son, Earl, delivered newspapers as a child and was hit by a train and injured badly. Hazel also stated that Lavinia's son Quinton became a minister.
