Minister Oscar Ellison McCoy, 89, of Galion passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born April 11, 1933, the fifth child of nine to Joseph Jr. and Mary (Coleman) McCoy in Pike County, Kentucky. Oscar and Joyce both worked at ERCO in Maryland, where they were introduced by Joyce's aunt. They married on September 26, 1955 and have enjoyed 67 years together.

Oscar proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, entering early at the age of 17. He worked as a minister and evangelist in the Church of Christ. Oscar was instrumental in founding and building up many churches in many cities, including Harrisonburg and Newport News, Virginia, Moorefield, West Virginia, Warrenton, Virginia, Waldorf, Maryland, Luray, Leesburg, Tappahannock and Culpepper, Virginia and lastly, Galion, Ohio. Preaching the Bible was his passion and he would have continued until his last breath.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Joy Lynne (Don) Monk of Galion, Trina (Jeff) Harvey of Mansfield, Sandra (Mark) Harmon of Galion and Sheila Wilkins of Galion; sons, Mark (Mary) McCoy of Galion and Chris McCoy of Virginia; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and a sister, Eunice Young of Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where a celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3 with Brother Rick Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio where military honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force.
