Son of John Hathaway Clements and Nancy Highland Clements. Husband of Drucilla Evans Clements. Samuel and Drucilla were married February 26, 1857 in Boone county, Indiana.
Samuel entered the Union Army, Co. F , 40th Reg. Indiana vollunteer Inf. on Dec. 17 , 1861 . He was in several battles. At the battle of Mission Ridge , Tenn. he was wounded in the right leg on Nov. 25 , 1863 . He had to have his leg amputated below the knee. He was discharged from the Marine Hospital , Cincinnati, Ohio on Oct. 17, 1864.
