Virginia A. VanDenberg, 88, of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Battle Creek Health System.
She was born September 19, 1915, in Saltville, Virginia, to George W. and Carrie B. (Hicks) White. She lived in Virginia until 1929, when her family moved to Battle Creek and she finished her schooling here.
She worked at Michigan Carton Company in the First Aid and Label Departments for 42 years, retiring in 1977.
When she first retired she spent winters in Florida.
She was married June 29, 1935, in Battle Creek, to Perle M. VanDenberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perle, in 1968, her parents, a sister, Ethel Hammond, three brothers, Clarence White, James White and Bolden White and a niece, Carolyn Daly.
Virginia is survived by sister-in-laws, Barbara White of Battle Creek and Laura Eggleston of Lansing, nieces, Janice (Don) French, Kathy (Larry) Heath, Becky (Tom) Edwards, all of Battle Creek, Susan Allgaier of Holland, Betty (Dudger) Holmes of Virginia and Betsy Daly of Bellevue and nephews, Mike (Nancy) White of Battle Creek, Robert (Judi) Bailey of Florida, Steve (Mikki) Daly of Bellevue, Paul (Jody) Daly of Marshall, David (Donna) Daly of Potterville and Joe (Catherine) Daly of New York City.
Virginia was a member of the Michigan Carton 25 Year Club and Order of Eastern Star Battle Creek Chapter #153.
She enjoyed her home, flowers, crocheting, knitting, housework, playing cards, dining out and spending time with her family.
At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where the family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be officiated by Rev. David L. Dryer in the Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, with interment to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
