Fred served in the Army during World War II, where he was a combat veteran serving in the Philippines. He worked for the county of Imperial as a truck driver and heavy machine operator. Fred coached little league baseball teams, was a member of the Holtville Athletic Club, and a member of the VFW. On his free time he enjoyed fishing, camping, watching boxing, and often attended Holtville Viking football games. Fred first married Lupe Acosta. After her passing, he then married Mary Kamn. Fred was a man of integrity, a man that loved his country and family.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lupe Acosta; infant daughter, Sandra Acosta; parents, Antonio Acosta and Refugio Acosta; brothers, Antonio Acosta Jr., Alvaro Acosta, Ernie Acosta, and Ruben Acosta; and sisters, Elisa Leon Pratt and Angela Acosta.
Fred is survived by his sons, Fred (Nancy) Acosta Jr., Richard (Sharon) Acosta ; wife, Mary Acosta; grandchildren, Anthony Acosta, Chris (Cathy) Acosta, Allora (Will) Adams, Cara-Lisa (John) Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Jessica Acosta, Marissa Acosta, Payton Jenkins, Danica Acosta, Tyler Jenkins, CJ Acosta, Jackson Adams, and Emma Adams; sister, Amelia (Robert) Cruz; step-children, Diana Peacher, Norma Chapin, and Yolanda Wakely; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Acosta family would like to thank Rose Crest Assisted Living for their caregiving to Fred for the last four years.
Viewing will be held on October 23, 2022 at Gardens of Eden from 5-7 p.m. Mass will commence on October 24, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Holtville at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Terrace Park Cemetery.
