John Robert Abbott, age 92, passed away peacefully at 4:44 p.m. at Metropolis Rehab in Metropolis, IL on October 21, 2022, surrounded by his family.
He was born February 6, 1930, to the late Guy and Ruby Abbott in Pope County, IL.
John was a site Superintendent (Park Ranger) at Dixon Springs State Park for 31 years. Before going to work at the Dixon Springs, John and his father, Guy Abbott, ran a small grocery store, Abbott's Grocery, in Golconda, IL.
John married Mary Katherine Craig on February 4, 1951. They were married over 71 years. Mary followed him in death on October 22, 2022.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Trueman, Dorothy Vancamp, Genivie Hunt, and one brother, Guy Edward Abbott.
