Mrs. Elizabeth Hebenstreit, a resident of Staunton practically all her life, passed away Monday morning [Dec. 10] at 2:20 o'clock at the Community Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient the past five weeks. She was aged 92 years and one month.

Born Nov 11, 1870, in St. Charles, Mo., she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Thurman. She came to Staunton in 1874 and was adopted by the late Herman Schaeper after her parents died. On Sept. 14, 1890, she was united in marriage with Frank P. Hebenstreit at St. Paul Evangelical church in Staunton. Mr. Hebenstreit died on Jan. 4, 1946. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ.

The body lay in state at the Fritz Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the St. Paul United Church of Christ, with Rev. Kenneth D. Kuenning officiating. Interment will be in the Staunton [City] cemetery.

Mrs. Hebenstreit is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Katherine Wittenberg and Mrs. Nellie J. Beeman of Staunton, and Mrs. Lillie Niedernhofer of Alton; three sons, Louis J. Hebenstreit and Cletus Hebenstreit of Staunton, and Alvin Hebenstreit of Mt. Olive; seven grandchildren, and other more distant relatives. A daughter, Mrs. Ida Niedernhofer, and a son, Authur Hebenstreit, preceded her in death.
